Kep

As we were leaving Phnom Penh to do some research in Kep, the bus suddenly stopped and the streets were filled with people staring at something. Several buildings were on fire and the workers and people who lived in the surrounding area were packing up their belongings and moving everything out into the street. We felt so bad for the people. Were not sure what happens when there is a fire in the city. The bus ride to Kep made us nauseous, but we loved getting away from the city. Kep is a beautiful village by the beach, and our little guesthouse was located right on the beach. The cool breeze was a refreshing change from the heat and pollution in Phnom Penh, and we spent our free time napping and reading in the hammocks. We think it is rather amazing how the bugs seem to multiply when you leave the city. After the first night, Whitney had bug bites the size of quarters and bigger all over her legs and arms. It was probably due to the fact that one of our windows was missing and we had also run out of bug spray. The following nights Whitney wore sweats and tied the bottom of the sweats with handkerchiefs. Then she put her arms inside her shirt and tried to sleep.
